Efficient Syntheses of Traumatic Lactone and Rhizobialide

Herein, we report the total synthesis of traumatic lactone and rhizobialide by utilizing allenoic acid to construct the lactone ring. The key starting materials, allenoic acids, could be prepared by the ATA (allenation of terminal alkynes) of a terminal alkyne with an aldehyde that contained a protected hydroxyl group followed by hydrolysis. Importantly, the asymmetric synthesis could be realized just by replacing racemic diphenylprinol with (R)- or (S)-diphenylprinol to deliver the optically active allenoate.     

Supercritical superprocesses: Proper normalization and non-degenerate strong limit

Suppose that X = {X_t, t≥0; P_μ} is a supercritical superprocess in a locally compact separable metric space E. Let φ0 be a positive eigenfunction corresponding to the first eigenvalue λ_0 of the generator of the mean semigroup of X. Then Mt := e~(-λ_0t)〈φ0,X_t〉 is a positive martingale. Let M_∞ be the limit of M_t. It is known(see Liu et al.(2009)) that M_∞ is non-degenerate if and only if the L log L condition is satisfied. In this paper we are mainly interested in the case when the L log L condition is not satisfied. We prove that, under some conditions, there exist a positive function γ_t on [0,∞) and a non-degenerate random variable W such that for any finite nonzero Borel measure μ on E,lim/t→∞γ_t〈φ0,X_t〉=W, a.s.-P_μ~.We also give the almost sure limit of γ_t〈f, X_t〉for a class of general test functions f.     

The Landscape of the Spiked Tensor Model

We consider the problem of estimating a large rank-one tensor u ^⊗k ∈ (ℝⁿ)^⊗k , k ≥ 3 , in Gaussian noise. Earlier work characterized a critical signal-to-noise ratio λ  _Bayes = O(1) above which an ideal estimator achieves strictly positive correlation with the unknown vector of interest. Remarkably, no polynomial-time algorithm is known that achieved this goal unless λ ≥ Cn^{(k − 2)/4} , and even powerful semidefinite programming relaxations appear to fail for 1 ≪ λ ≪ n^{(k − 2)/4} . In order to elucidate this behavior, we consider the maximum likelihood estimator, which requires maximizing a degree-k homogeneous polynomial over the unit sphere in n dimensions. We compute the expected number of critical points and local maxima of this objective function and show that it is exponential in the dimensions n , and give exact formulas for the exponential growth rate. We show that (for λ larger than a constant) critical points are either very close to the unknown vector u or are confined in a band of width Θ(λ^{−1/(k − 1)}) around the maximum circle that is orthogonal to u . For local maxima, this band shrinks to be of size Θ(λ^{−1/(k − 2)}) . These “uninformative” local maxima are likely to cause the failure of optimization algorithms. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     

Coordinate Bond Breaking Induced by Collapse of Poly(\begin{document}$N$\end{document}-isopropyl acrylamide) as Ligands of a Rare Earth Complex

A novel water-soluble luminescent complex consisting of Eu(ally-dbm)\begin{document}$_3$\end{document}-2Tppo and poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAM) is synthesized through a series of chemical reactions. The structure of the complex is characterized by TGA, GPC, HNMR, and the thermal-responsive fluorescence of the complex in aqueous solution is investigated. It is found that PNIPAM collapse above the lower critical solution temperature causes the coordination bond breaking, leading to weakening of the fluorescence from Eu\begin{document}$^{3+}$\end{document} and enhancing of the fluorescence from the ligands. When temperature decreases, the fluorescence from Eu\begin{document}$^{3+}$\end{document} is found to boost up and the fluorescence from ligands weakens accordingly. It is deduced from this phenomenon that the ligands re-coordinate with europium ions again along with the temperature decreasing, which is further confirmed by IR measurements. This thermal-responsive fluorescence is of reversibility, which can be used as molecular probes for biological imaging and collapse studying of PNIPAM.

Synthesis of Axially Chiral Styrenes through Pd-Catalyzed Asymmetric C−H Olefination Enabled by an Amino Amide Transient Directing Group

The atroposelective synthesis of axially chiral styrenes remains a formidable challenge due to their relatively lower rotational barriers compared to the biaryl atropoisomers. Herein, we describe the construction of axially chiral styrenes through Pd^II-catalyzed atroposelective C−H olefination, using a bulky amino amide as a transient chiral auxiliary. Various axially chiral styrenes were produced with good yields and high enantioselectivity (up to 95 % yield and 99 % ee). Carboxylic acid derivatives of the resulting axially chiral styrenes showed superior enantiocontrol over the biaryl counterparts in Co^III-catalyzed enantioselective C(sp³)−H amidation of thioamide. Mechanistic studies suggest that C−H cleavage is the enantioselectivity-determining step.     

Harmonically pump a femtosecond optical parametric oscillator to 1.13 GHz by a femtosecond 515 nm laser

We demonstrate a harmonically pumped femtosecond optical parametric oscillator(OPO)laser using a frequency-doubled mode-locked Yb:KGW laser at a repetition rate of 75.5 MHz as the pump laser.Based on a bismuth borate nonlinear crystal,repetition rates up to 1.13 GHz are realized,which is 15 times that of the pump laser.The signal wavelength is tunable from 700 nm to 887 nm.The maximum power of the signal is 207 m W at the central wavelength of 750 nm and the shortest pulse duration is 117 fs at 780 nm.The beam quality(M^2 factor)in the horizontal and vertical directions of the output beam are 1.077 and 1.141,respectively.
